- JI detainee Mas Selamat Kastari escapes from Singapore detention centre -

SINGAPORE : A massive police operation is underway in Singapore after the leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah network here, Mas Selamat Kastari, escaped from detention at 4.05pm on Wednesday.

A statement from the Home Affairs Ministry says Mas Selamat walks with a limp and is presently at large.

He is not known to be armed and is one of Singapore's most wanted men.

Extensive police resources have been deployed to track him down after he escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre.

Anyone with information about him can contact the police at 999.

Mas Selamat was arrested by the Indonesian police on Bintan island in January 2006.

He was picked up then for using a fake identity card.

Based on investigations then, Indonesia's elite anti-terror police discovered he was the leader of the Singapore Jemaah Islamiyah network, a terrorist organisation.

They then deported the man to Singapore in 2006.

The 45-year-old father of four was also said to be involved in JI's plans to mount attacks against foreign and local establishments here.

These included the US Embassy and American Club, the Defence Ministry headquarters at Bukit Gombak and the Education Ministry building at North Buona Vista Drive.

Mas Selamat fled Singapore in December 2001 following an Internal Security Department operation against the terrorist organisation.

The militant leader had been on the run after Singapore authorities discovered plans to crash seven truck filled with bombs at various locations around the island.

Investigations also revealed that he was the mastermind behind a plan to hijack an airplane and crash it into Changi airport.

When he was last arrested in Indonesia, officers found literature on bomb making on the man.

Mas Selamat's deportation to Singapore two years ago was seen as a significant development in the close network of cooperation amongst intelligence officers in the region to share information on terror suspects and to defeat the terror threat.

The islandwide manhunt has fanned out to areas in Beauty World in Upper Bukit Timah and Goldhill Avenue near Barker Road.

Officers are also knocking on homes asking residents if they have seen the escapee.

Police have also formed a formidable blockade around Malcolm Park, near the Singapore Chinese Girls' School. - CNA/ch

- Shocking Looks in Chinese Fur Farm -
Animal Cruelty!!!

Saw tis from EDMW thread "here"

Clicked on the link and wat is saw shocked me!!!

Source: "here"

Skinned Alive
"When undercover investigators made their way onto Chinese fur farms recently, they found that many animals are still alive and struggling desperately when workers flip them onto their backs or hang them up by their legs or tails to skin them. When workers on these farms begin to cut the skin and fur from an animal's leg, the free limbs kick and writhe. Workers stomp on the necks and heads of animals who struggle too hard to allow a clean cut. When the fur is finally peeled off over the animals' heads, their naked, bloody bodies are thrown onto a pile of those who have gone before them. Some are still alive, breathing in ragged gasps and blinking slowly. Some of the animals' hearts are still beating five to 10 minutes after they are skinned. One investigator recorded a skinned raccoon dog on the heap of carcasses who had enough strength to lift his bloodied head and stare into the camera."

If u got weak heart, pls dun stream the video!!!

Pledge to go fur-free at PETA.org

- HK celebrity Lydia Sum dies at 60 -

VETERAN Hong Kong actress Lydia Sum, known for her iconic black-rimmed glasses and heavy build, died early on Tuesday, news reports said. She was 60.

The cause of death wasn't immediately clear, but Commercial Radio reported on its website that Sum had been suffering from a bile duct condition. Radio RTHK reported on its website she suffered from liver cancer.

Shanghai-born Sum passed away in Queen Mary Hospital in Hong Kong.

The star had been suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure. She was admitted into hospital in August last year for an operation.

Affectionately known to peers and fans as Fei-fei, Sum made her movie debut at age 13, according to the Commercial Radio report.

In 1960, she joined Shaw Brothers. Her stardom began with the widely televised TVB variety show Enjoy Yourself Tonight, first singing with the Four Golden Flowers in the 1970s.

She acted in more than 100 movies in Hong Kong and hosted more than 5,000 episodes of variety shows. Kung fu fans will remember her as Yuen Cheung-Yan's dominating wife in the film Drunken Tai Chi. She also appeared as Richard Ng's wife in the all-star comedy Millionaire's Express and in It's a Mad Mad World in a major role.

Sum starred in Mediacorp's Channel 5 sitcom 'Living with Lydia' and her performance in the Singapore programme won her the 'Best Comedy Performance by an Actress' award at the 2003 Asian Television Awards.

It was the first time she had acted in an English drama in her 40 year career.

Sum married actor and singer Adam Cheng Siu Chow in 1985 after 11 years of cohabitation. They had a daughter, Joyce Cheng Yan Yee, in 1987. Eight months after Joyce was born, Cheng and Sum divorced.

Hong Kong leader Donald Tsang mourned Sum's death. 'Hong Kong grew up with her laughter. She brought us a lot of joy,' Mr Tsang told reporters.

- 戊子年大年初一 -

Firstly, I would like to wish all of you 鼠年行大运,身体健康,万事如意, 心想事成。Huat ah!!!!

A typical 大年初一, everyone will b visiting relatives and all busy 拜年-ing. But for me, tis is the 2nd year that its Home Resting time. No visiting on the 1st day. Usually ppl will visit their grandparents on the 1st day. But for me, my ah gong and ah ma have already passed away. Wats left is my 爷爷 and 奶奶 BUT!! Due to some circumstances, we will not visit them. Some of you might think that its 不孝, but for those who noe what they have done to us. U all will noe wats happening~ :D

For this 大年初一, I actually watched 2 MOVIES!!! 2 贺岁电影 in 1 Day... LoL~~

They are《老师家老大》&《功夫灌篮》!!!

《老师家老大》

Cast: Fann Wong, Mark Lee
Director: Jack Neo
Genre:Comedy/ Drama
Language: Mandarin
Release Date:7 February 2008

Ah Long Pte Ltd is a light-hearted black comedy about the triad world and the money-lending business. The movie takes on a humorous and sarcastic treatment on the underworld. It depicts how a young lady, Li Hua (Fann Wong) tries to restructure her money-lending triad into a professional and 'loving' triad that stands against the use of violence after she takes over from her triad leader (Richard Low) who retired. Her various restructuring plans (which are no doubt very creative) bring about hilarious results.

Li Hua tired of her mother's constant nagging to get married, she finally relented and proposed to Mr Fang (Mark Lee), an effeminate dance instructor cum image stylist. Surprised to many and even herself, Mr Fang accepted the proposal. The unusual union, despite the misfits, soon blossom into love.

This show its very Singapore and very Jack Neo, nothing new. Jokes are as expected, not really funny thou... The only funny part is the always ask the ahneh come out use his indian accent say a few sentences, den he will start mumbling in Tamil. =__="

I even fell asleep towards the ending. Seldom will i sleep while watching movie, but tis show did it! No wonder it has bad ratings!! This show, u definitely can give it a MISS!
Rating: 1/5

2nd Show for the day is
《功夫灌篮》

As i have already add in some synopsis in my previous post, i will not post it here..

This show did not let me down!!! Enjoyed it very much, every bit of it. Pace is cool, juz nice. Effects and everything is Good. There are funny times, emotional times and comical times... The theme song 《周大侠》totally blends right into the show seamlessly. Jay's acting improved in this show. Really enjoyed it and so did those ppl in the same cinema as me! This is the movie u CANT MISS!
Rating: 4/5

Sadly, I haven watch CJ7. Would catch it one of these days, or during the weekend.

TMR will be a busy day!! Morning need to prepare for 开年, den follow by a series of visiting. From Seng Kang to Hougang to Serangoon and finally back to Woodlands~ LoL....

P/S: For those who wanna listen to 《周大侠》, its already in my playlist. Enjoy!!!

- Reporter under pressure to change the subject title and content??? -
"6 in 10 new jobs go to foreigners" to "S'pore adds record number of jobs in 2007, a third filled by foreigners" to "S'poreans and foreigners gain from job boom"

I really find it alarming that such things are happening... Shouldn't reporter report the truth?

Before:

After:

Now:

Reporters get F9 for maths or wat?

How can "6 out of 10 jobs go to foreigner" change to "a third filled by foreigners"???

1st report clearly states that 60% of jobs goes to Foreigners, and Singaporeans only get 40% of the jobs.

2nd report stats "a third filled by foreigners". A third is 33.3% which means Singaporeans gets 66.7% of the jobs.

2 questions:
Where they get their stats from?
How can we trust anymore reports from ST?

This is the statistics by ahgong_hippo of EDMW

New jobs
: 236,600

Local vs Foreigner: 92,100 vs 144,500

or 38.9% vs 61.1%

6/10 new jobs went to foreigners.

But with creativity, we have,

Total workforce : 2,700,000

Local vs Foreigners: 1,799,200 vs 900,800

or 66.6% (hey 66.6% again!) vs 33.4%

1/3 filled by foreigners.

More Good Years ahead!!!

- It doesn't pay to be Kind -

Last nite is already a very horrible nite but to add on to make it worse, i receive tis sms and i was quites shock to see it... it goes
"In future, pls dont tell j bout superstitious things about my zodiac. Feng Shui is not supposed to be superstitious. Sometimes circumstances will force u to attend funeral n tis is something beyond one control. We cannot never forever live in fear avoiding everything"

Firstly, what has Fengshui gotta do wif Zodiac, Nothing!
Secondly, I know that for the Year of the Cow, certain animals is better to avoid attending funerals, so i juz let j noe about it. Whether to go or not, the ultimate decision is made by you.

I replied:
"From now on, i wun say le. Its out of concern. Its up to individual. Its always out of concern, but it turns out that ppl dun really appreciate. That time KC fridge incident also. I m so disappointed."

2nd sms goes like tis:
"I know u r concern but at work sometimes we hv no choice. Its like if u cannot get involved then wat if its ur grandparents, dont tell me u oso like tt. Superstitious sometimes 会害人. Yrs ago blah blah..." Say i should not tell J, he is her S, he cares for her but now her boss's dad KKK, how? "J keeps telling me not to go.
"Our v close collegue oso dying anytime how. Life cannot forever avoid all these unless u r lone ranger. Put me in ur shoes. What will u do. Hope u understand."

Sometimes haf no choice is 1 thing. But put it tis way. Wat if something really happens after that?
If u tell ppl u cant attend funeral, they will understand. My friend's parents or grandparents are also leaving so? how? Can go i go, cant go i juz giv "Pek Kim". Its not like forever u cannot attend, juz tis one year and it HAVEN START TILL NEXT THURSDAY!!!
I m also half ur S, but i dunno lar, at least I treat u like my M. Seriously lar, such things I noe, I say, whether or not u wanna listen its up to individual. But from now on, I WILL NOT SAY.... At least only for my family to noe...

Really disappointed....
What else can i say?
